A New Brief - Northern Soul

On Monday 11th March 2019, we were given a new brief based around Northern Soul. We have been asked to create a 60 second film, a photoshoot, creative strategy manual along with this blog which documents the development of the project and 7 mood boards. Below shows the full brief and the submission items that has been taken from the module handbook.

During our first session when we were given this brief, we were given the chance to chose our partners and begin to research Northern Soul and see what our perception if this is. From here, we were able to begin a note our first ideas for what we wanted to do for out film and photoshoot. This began with looking at the music and clothing of the 70s when Northern Soul was at its peak. Here are my notes of initial ideas that my partner and I came up with.

On this day, there was also a lecture on the history of Northern Soul to give us more of an insight into what exactly Northern Soul was. This was an extremely interesting and informative presentation, I was able to receive a deeper understand about Northern Soul and the types of people who were a part of this.

Through this presentation, I was also able to write notes based around some points that I found particularly interesting and that could definitely help in the gathering of research for our submission items. Overall, I find this brief exciting and I cannot wait to explore Northern Soul, while also creating an personal interpretion of the genre.
